The great poet Asrar ul MAJAZ has described all the qualities of the ALIGS and the glories of ALIGARH .
His masterpiece of urdu poetry creates a picture of Aligarh and of its enthuthiastic Aligarians .
” har shaam hai shaam-e-Misr yahan, har shab hai shab-e-Sheeraz yahan
hai saare jahan ka soz yahan aur saare jahan ka saaz yahan
ye dasht-e-junoon deewanon ka, ye bazm-e-wafa parwanon ki
ye shahr-e-tarab roomanon ka, ye khuld-e-bareen armanon ki
fitrat ne sikhlai hai ham ko, uftaad yahan parwaaz yahaaN
gaaye hain wafa ke geet yahan, chheda hai junoon ka saaz yahaaN ”
This also proves to be a source of inspiration for Aligarians like me .
” is bazm mein naeze kheenche hain, is bazm mein khanjar choome hain
is bazm mein gir gir tadpe hain, is bazm mein pee kar jhoome hain ”
Finally , this nazm praises the glorious alumnis of AMU .
ye abr hamesha barsa hai, ye abr hamesha barsega ”

Many thanks for providing us full Tarana..Its really great..
RELISH THE MEMORIES OF ALIGARH WONDERFUL
Really Doctor sahab
Complete tarana padh kar dil khush ho gaya.
Although it has been only 1 year since i left AMU,it seems 2 me that it has passed only 1 day.Dil kar raha hai apne ameen hostel jaakar doston ko saath le kar zakaria market nikal jaun chai peene aur jam kar BC,baat cheet karun
It is the unique bond of AMU which binds all the “cheetas” of AMU.I pray 2 Allah that it remains so forever.
oh i m very glad to see the full tarana here
really after spending so many years in a.m.u i really dont know about the full tarana.
it is mind blowing
an asset of onspiration for all aligs like me

” har abr yahan se uthega, wo saare jahan par barsega
har joo-e-rawan par barsega, har koh-e-garan par barsega
ye i love i vrymuch
As-Salaam Alaikum,
6 Years in AMU and came to read the full Tarana after 20 years of leaving it, what a pity.
I was there during the period of Syed Hamid as VC and these lines sum up the scenario then.
“is bazm meN neze khenche haiN, is bazm meN Khanjar chuume haiN
is bazm meN gir-gir taRpe haiN, is bazm meN pii kar jhuume haiN”
leave aside the “pii kar jhume haiN” part.
But the captivating lines are…
“aa aa kar hazaaroN baar yahaaN Khud aag bhii hamne lagaayii hai
phir saare jahaaN ne dekhaa hai ye aag hamiin ne bujha’ii hai”
Long live AMU, The Aligarians and the Spirit of Aligarh, Majaaz is stil alive in our hearts.

I am fan of this Tarana since i was not an Alig, it was enthusiastic n gumptious at that time too n even today when i’ve left university.
“is farsh se hamne uR uR kar aflaak ke taare toRe haiN
nahiid se kii hai sargoshi, parviin se rishte joRe hain”
Sahab iski koi kaat hi nahin hai…….
Tarane ne humesha jazba badhaya hai aur badhata rahega Insha-Allah
Aligarh Zindabad!!!!!!!!!!!
kiya kahain ,,,i am just speechless ….i really have no words , to express my feeelings and emotions towards the tarana….it just made me remind of my old days spent in Aligarh,,,and the last year of my college where i myself with other girls went to kennedy hall to sing the tarana, though the girls were never used to go n sing the tarana but i was the lucky one to have got it sung with the other boys of the university as it was the year of TAMSEEL and MEEZAN the literary progrmmaes….celebrated by the university for its platinum jubile celebration…..so i have so much to pour myself into but …Alas!!!!!!!!i cant pour myself into words……..i can just say this much that with out this we Alig’s are just incomplete so it gave us a feeling of fulfilness and a feeling of completeness….so i am thankful to Majaz sb …..who could pour himself into words so well, n into depth so deeply…..may Allah bless him with the finest life there,,,,,and may his soul rest in peace,,,,,thanx a lot..for giving me the opportunity to say some thing about this tarana..through this sight,,,,,,thanx for every thing..we have gained from our MAADAR E DARSGAH…..AMU….farzana sidiqui

Ey Aligarh rooh e sayyad ilm o fun ke gulsitaan
ey Aligarh rooh e sayyad ilm o fun ke gulsitaan ….

First time i had listen the trana at the age of sixteenth around 24 years back. i never gone through the lyrics of tarana becoz of lacking in urdu. Today i go through the tarana word by word. thanks to the moderator. Being a keyboard(YAMAH PSR 550) expert i have decide to prepare this on my own keyboard, to keep it alive in my heart like other sweet memories of Aligarh.

Hi,guys,
It was simply great to see the full version of the AMU Tarana which I fell in love with way back in 1959. I confess I havn’t read anything about the great shaair’s life and his Nazre Hind. I like to think that this Nazm could have been entitled Nazr-e- Hind. The most significant part of the poet’s nazr seems to be contained in the following two lines which, unfortunately were dropped from the Aligarh Tarana:
Islam ke is but-Khaane meN asnaam bhii haiN aur Aazaar bhii
tahziib ke is mai-Khaane meN shamshiir bhii hai aur saaGhar bhii
I would be grateful if these lines are added to the Tarana and my humble suggestion is forwarded to the University Court for consideration. I sincerely believe that the Tarana with a little bit of editing could be adopted as one of our national anthems and could certaily be sung, with greater soul stirring effect, alonside Bande Matiram. I do not know why we became enamoured of the tarana-e-hind of Allama Iqbal which was, soon enough subsumed by ترانۂ ملی.
I shall be grateful to know the great music composer of the Trarana.
Thanks and regards

Assalam O Alaikum,
Was in Aligarh ( 1982-1986) and being active in cultural & Literary fields sang & enjoyed “Tarana -E- Aligarh” many a times specially the last stanza along with the thunderous clapping BUT my dear friends never knew the complete Nazm from which tarana is abridged.
I really thank the moderators of the site for providing the complete version.
MAJAZ SAHAB ki kya baat karen, Dil Garden Garden Kar Diya, Allaha Unko Garike Rahamat Kare.My thankfullness to him for the Tarana is BEYOND words

If I am not wrong and to the best of my knowledge the music composer of Tarana E Aligarh was Late Khan Ishtiaq Khan. He is the same who made the documentry on AMU which is quite often shown in Kennedy Hall,AMU & Doordarshan.
With Best of Regards

hats off to moderator.
Assalam-alaikum,
I belong to a family of Aligarians ,and am one myself,
i just read the original nazm of Majaz and came down to the
enteries from around the world . I just wonder at the foresight of Majaz saab (JO ABR YAHAN SE UHTEGA, WO SAARE JAHAN PE BARSEGA),
and of course of Sir Syed saab .they saw the place on the world map
as mecca of education and this very webpage is testomony of their foresight.

Majaz has really done a marvellous job, and his tarana is a master piece.
but the part which is not included in tarana, mostly he is talking about wine, alchohol,
he was not a good person we can say but a good poet.
