What a fine nazm; I wish I understood Urdu better. There are some words I don’t understand at all. But nevertheless, immensely enjoying your website – Fantastic.

Thank you so much, had no idea what jumuud, intishar, yazdaan and Khaliq-e-Kaunain meant. Thank you.

Dear Mohib,

What a beautiful Nazm…and thanks for the putting up meaning of some of the more difficult words.

Do you have any idea when this recording was made? Seems preety late in Kaifi sahib’s life…and is that his wife in the background who is prompting him?

I know this is a thankless task but would appreciate greatly if you could do a similar word translations for more nazms. Or maybe out up an online dictionary, if its possible.

Thanks for your efforts.

This recording was made in Feb 2001 in New Delhi, almost 15 months before his death.

Yeah, probably she is his wife, Shaukat Azmi who portrayed the role of Khanum in Umrao Jaan. Now, her daughter Shabana Azmi is portraying the same role in the JP Dutta’s new Umrao Jaan.
