varnaa aaNdhii meN diyaa kis ne jalaayaa hogaa
(aablaapaa : blisters in foot, frenzied; dasht : ruins)
zarre zarre pe jaRe hoNge kuNvaare sajde
ek ek but ko Khudaa us ne banaayaa hogaa
(zarre : dust particles; sajde : prostations)
pyaas jalte hu’e kaaNToN kii bujhaa’ii hogii
riste paanii ko hathelii pe sajaayaa hogaa
(kaaNTe : thorns; hathelii : palm)
mil gayaa hogaa agar ko’ii suneharii patthar
apnaa TuuTaa hu’aa dil yaad to aayaa hogaa

What do the words KuNvaare sajde allude to?

lafzon kaa jaamaa
pehnaayaa hogaa.
jab jab zamaaney ki
sard hawaaon ney tumhey
sirhraayaa hogaa,
shaayad wahi andaaz
kabhi ghazal ,kabhi sher,
to kabhi adaa ban kar
pardey per ootar ayaa hoga.
tum naa sahi ,
tumhaari yaad hi sahi
tum naa sahi,
tumhaaraa khyaal hi sahi

tumharey jazbaat hi sahi,

i didn’y like this ghazal very much at all but i just love listening to Meena Kumari’s voice. There is so much pain and emotion in her voice.

Great to have some nice urdu poetry in English, so can b read by people like us who can’t read the language but adore the language .
Meena Kumari was a great actress and her poems too are soultouching just like her acting.They reflect the pain and suffering as perfectly as she used to portray on celluloid.
Would love to read more poems and verses by great urdu poets as well.
Meena Kumari was a very good actress…she had her own style statement…..she worked in so many movies and each one was one of its own kind….may God rest her in peace ……
She had a very natural beauty. Her acting suited in every kind of role whether it is Pakeeza or Dil apna or Preet Paraya. As saying goes on: “Good people never live longer”.
