patthar ke Khudaa vahaaN bhii paaye
ham chaaNd se aaj lauT aaye

diivaareN to har taraf khaRii haiN
kyaa ho gaye meh’rbaaN saaye

jangal kii havaayeN aa rahii haiN
kaaGhaz kaa ye shah’r uR na jaaye

Lailaa ne nayaa janam liyaa hai
hai Qais ko’ii jo dil lagaaye?

hai aaj zamiiN kaa ghus’l-e-sehat
jis dil meN ho jitnaa Khuun laaye

sehraa sehraa lahuu ke Kheme
phir pyaase lab-e-Furaat aaye*

meh’rbaan : loving, affectionate
Qais : Another name for Majnuu
ghus’l-e-sehat : Bathing after recovery from sickness
sehraa : desert
Kheme : tent
lab-e-Furaat : Bank of river Euphrates

* Alludes to the battle of Karbala.

Very nice sir, but was this written with a certain context in mind. Despite understanding the words (thanks to your inclusion of the tough ones), I am not sure what exactly Kaifi Sahib is trying to say here. Maybe if I spend more time with it…
