Probably the best rendering of gazal by Mehdi Hassan which brings out whole gamut of his mastery of classical grounding, the range and most important `the sprit` of each stanza–`sirf bandish-o-aawaaz hi kafi nahiiN gazal ke liye ;gigar ka khuun bhi kuch chahiye asar ke liye`
About the poet I cannot improve upon Ghalib `—agle zamane meN koii Mir bhi tha`

Thank you so much for this excellent compilation of Ghazals. Jashn-e-Mehdi Hassan has kept me excellent company during a rather trying time and I am sorry it has to end.
Cannot thank you enough.

Looking forward to Jasn-e-Abida Parveen, have hardly heard her so should be a good experience. And thank you so much once again.

well sitting in india and getting the oppurtunity to listen to ghazal maestro mehdi hassan through AIR and looking at his famous ghazals over here in this website has been a wonderfull experience. There are still some ghazals missing which i can provide to you all to share and cherish.i forget all my pains and stress in my life when i listen to this absolutely stunning ghazal singer.I would really like to know if he is alive or not.

Somehow the best rendition of “dekh to dil ke jaan se…” – in my humble opinion- is the one from the film “Paakezah”. The song is hummed just before one of Meena Kumari’s fellow coutesan reminds her that the feet which the letter addressed(by Rajkumar – …aapke pao bahut khoobsoorat hai …zameen par mat rakhiega …maele ho jaenge) was without the “ghungroo”.
Wish it was included in the album of the film’Pakeezah’….dont even know who sang it. Any help?

Aaruni:

I also love that rendition and am desperately searching for it. No luck so far. The singer is Naseem Bano Chopra. Not much is known about her either.

This song has been my wet pillow for years. It awakens a sweet pulsating pain in the heart, whch is,strangely, very cathartic. What would I not give to have more of Naseem Bano’s songs!
