Meena Kumari is a woman to be classed with flowers and music. I do not know or understand Urdu, but was gifted two of her books. Believe you me, they are the most precious pieces of literature I have as they are “hers”. I do have her CD “I write I recite.” My favorite is “Abala” # 8 on the CD. Actually, listening to her poem, I was successful in spinning off one of my own.

Dard ka jazba……….itni khumaari se aur itni nafaasat se pesh karna………..yehi hunar hai Meena ji ka……aur sabse ahem baat ke ye sher nahin hain ……balki ek zindagi…….ek asaliyat….ek falsafa……..ek lau…..

I am so happy that I shored up here during surfing. Meena Kumar i has always been my favorite actress. I adored her roles in so many films. She was also so very beautiful.
I must congratulate you all for getting this amazing idea to develop this site. I am also very fond of Urdu poetry, be it Ghazal or Nazm.

Simply put, an amazing treasure that our generation in the 21st century have to remember and preserve. Meena Kumari is absolutely heartrenching. A word out to Renuka Singh. What do you mean by “owning” 2 pieces of her literature? Do you have 2 books that belonged to her? If so, could you be name them please. Thank you. And to the makers of this site, thank you as well..

The correct fourth line is “dil hi dukhata hai na ab aas titar hoti hai” meaning ” In suffering I have reached such a stage that I have stopped feeling pain. I have suffered so much pain that i am now beyond pain. In such state, my expectations have also ceased.(aas-expectation, aasha,-titar-scatter

The correct fourth line is ” dilhi dukhata hai na ab aas titar hoti hai” meaning ” I have suffered so much pain in my life that i have stopped feeling pain. I am beyond pain. In this state my expectations have also ceased. I am like a living dead.( aas-expectations,aasha and titar-scatter or foil).

Pariza December 8, 2007 at 11:38 pm

the fourth line is correct that “dilhi dukhta hai na ab aastiin tar hoti hai”means my pain is beyond pain that now, neither my heart aches nor my sleeves (I am not sure if “aastiin” means sleeves or lap when you cry and it gets wet)

Pariza December 8, 2007 at 11:41 pm

It is a breath taking piece of poetry and the fourth line is correct that “dilhi dukhta hai na ab aastiin tar hoti hai”means my pain is beyond pain that now, neither my heart aches nor my sleeves (I am not sure if “aastiin” means sleeves or lap when you cry and it gets wet)get wet.

Bahut khoob. Bachpan me papa suna karte the.. tab se hi bahut achhi lagti thi… alfaaz to samajh nahi paati thi lekin dard pehchaantii thii.. Matlab bahut der baad samajh aaya, jab urdu seekhni shuru ki aur jab samajh aane lagi to bas…
