aisii raateN bhii ka’ii guzrii haiN
jab terii yaad nahiiN aayii hai
dard siine meN machaltaa hai magar
lab pe faryaad nahiiN aatii hai
har gunaah saamne aa jaataa hai
jaise taariik chaT-TaanoN kii qataar
na ko’ii hiilaa-e-teshaa-kaarii
na madaavaa-e-rihaa’ii, na faraar
aisii raateN bhii haiN guzrii mujh par
jab terii raah-guzar meN saaye
har jagah chaar taraf the chhaaye
kabhii bhaage, kabhii aaye
tuu na thii, terii tarah ke saaye
saaye hii saaye the raqsaaN
maiN na thaa, merii tarah ke saaye
saaye hii saaye the larzaaN larzaaN
saaye hii saaye terii raahguzaar ke saaye
aisii raateN bhii haiN guzrii mujh par
jab terii yaad nahiiN aayii hai.

Shadows
Such nights have also passed
when your memory did not flare,
pain quivered in the heart
but no complaint to share.
Every sin appears to the fore
like dark rocks in a row,
there is neither a plea to break the rocks,
nor seek release, not move to go.
Such nights have also passed
when on your ways, everywhere
there were shadows, here and there,
leaping up and down,
down and up.
You weren’t there, there were shadows like you,
shadows in dance all about,
I wasn’ there, there were shadows like me,
shadows in termor,
shadows and shadows, shadows of pathways.
Such nights have also passed
when your memory did not flare.

it was very enjoyable and it took me back to the MUA
very beautiful.
In the fourth misra, shouldn’t it be “aayii”, not “aatii”?
I’ve discoverd this site recently, and am very impressed with its good design and content. please accept my compliments.
I haven’t seen many typos so far, but if I notice any, I hope you won’t mind if I point it out.
@ Jameel saahab,
Thank you and glad to know that it stirred some old memories for you.
@bahaar ji,
Welcome to Aligarians.com and thanks for the kind words. I would really appreciate if you would point out the typos in future.
The book I copied the nazm from has ‘aatii’. I would try to cross-check in other books if possible. But you are right, ‘aayii’ seems apt here.
It is very nice to be compile all the aligerian in one string.
