Literary Works of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan

The present Aligarh Muslim University and its Alumni represent the dream of its great founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. The founder's day celebration i.e., Sir Syed Day function world-over, followed by the University "Taranah" and dinner is neither a birthday celebration nor an ordinary get-to-gather, but is more of a Tradition - deep down with a message silently reminding all of us about Sir Syed’s noble mission left behind to us as Aligs.

Hoping this collection (below) on Sir Syed's literary works may help Aligs and well-wishers to find clue to his mission, which is in conclusion .....

… I assure you that the only thing which can raise you to a high rank is high education. Until our nation can give birth to highly-educated people it will remain degraded; it will be below others, and will not attain such honor as I desire for it ....  Sir Syed.

While going through his work, one will be amazed to find that Syed Ahmad is no doubt, one of most dynamic and epoch-making personalities of the 19th century. At once a theologian, a scholar, a social reformer, an educationist, a politician, a writer and a journalist, he made in incomparable contribution to the making of the modern India and the resurgence of the Muslim community.

His character was marked by sincerity and dedication, by integrity and perseverance, by self-respect and courage of conviction, by tolerance and sympathy. He was orthodox in his belief and yet cosmopolitan in his outlook. Such men are but born rarely. Such men never die. Syed Ahmad's name is inscribed for ever in the annals of Muslim India.

Throughout his life Syed Ahmad found time for literary pursuits. The range of his literary interests was very wide: history, politics, archaeology, journalism, literature, religion and science.
